LibreNews Weekly Digest #1

Hi,

I have decided to send you a weekly digest instead of emailing you for each article we publish (i.e., once a day). There will soon be a setting to customize whether you want weekly or daily emails (or none at all), but you'll have to bear with me for now.

I would also like to apologize for a broken email I sent earlier this week. I have now learned how to preview emails before sending them. Won't happen again!

So, what were we up to this week?

My New Favorite Linux Laptop
Hi, and welcome back to the never-ending journey of finding Niccolò’s perfect laptop. Sadly, I have not found it yet. But I have something that gets close to show you. This is the Lenovo Duet 5. It’s out of stock, so don’t rush to buy it, but you can get

The most popular post by all was my brief experience with Linux on the Duet 5. Though I love the device, I have not yet managed to install Linux on the internal drive, and I'm still daily driving it via USB stick. I've also been contacted by an Ultramarine developer who will send me an image to try out. Sounds like there's still fun to be had there.

The Future of KDE Styling and Design
I hadn’t talked about this yet, but there has been work going on behind the scenes to completely revamp the KDE theming system. In this article I will cover how this new amazing setup works, and it does already work(-ish), plus what the future of KDE styles and themes

A close contender for first place this week! I decided to talk a bit about what Union and Plasma Next are (i.e. "the future of KDE design and theming"). Props go to Arjen and Andy for the projects. I've been contacted by the latter to maybe do some KDE design collab; could be interesting!

RISC-V on Framework Laptops, explained
As you might have heard, Framework, the company behind highly-repairable and Linux-compatible laptops, has just made a new motherboard available for its main product, the Framework Laptop 13. Up to now, nothing crazy or out of the ordinary - Framework maintains their laptops well-supported and has a long history of

A great article by Luca. He claimed the first spot last week, but this time around I did manage to beat him. He was under a bit of pressure due to exams, but he should be back next week with an update on GNOME 48 and an article about the monetization of applications in Flathub.

The Kdenlive Fundraiser
Just a few years ago, Kdenlive - KDE’s video editing program - launched a fundraiser. It wasn’t just any fundraiser – but rather, one where the explained it detail exactly why they needed the money, and what they were going to do with them. Very quickly, they promised to bring nested

Whops, this one didn't do that well! Really, I just wanted a very simple article on fundraising of both Kdenlive and Plasma, though it ended up being quite video-editor-heavy.

There's one article less than usual since I also had an exam on Friday, so I decided to take a bit of a break. Do expect full content for the week ahead.

Members-only content

One day, this section will have some extra content for LibreNews members, i.e. those donating to the channel. Though, I'm still working on setting things up here.

If you are a patron and you subscribe here with the same email as Patreon, you will automatically be added as a member here too. I'm working on a script to automate that, so fear not if it has not happened yet. There's nothing to see anyway, yet.

That was everything for last week. See you in a few days!
